Losing faith in humanity

a phrase used by an individual who has just discovered that an idea near and dear to them was rejected by a group of people.  Often used in response to elections, poll data, economic indicators, and other information/results based on a given population, the speaker fails to consider that their own opinions may have been flawed themselves, placing the blame on ‘humanity’ instead.

Ex. “New polling data came out that shows only 20% of people want to wear masks in America.  I’m really losing faith in humanity now.”
